Russian jewelry box hand painted in the unique Northern Dvina style. Northern Dvina [Severnaya Dvina] is a river in Northern Russia flowing into the Dvina Bay of the White Sea. The style of painting before you is generally called Lubok (or a hand-drawn Lubok). However, this is a particular type of it � a Norther Dvina type. A characteristic motif of the Northern Dvina Lubok painting is a flowering branch with large, tulip-like flowers. Predominant color of the pictures is red and the artists often use the uncolored background.
