Karakul Kuban Cossack hat with a white woolen cloth crown as worn by White Army officers in the Kornilov Horse Regiment from 1919 through to their emigration in 1923. Decreed into use by yesaul Fyodor Eliseev. Also known among Kubans as the Ossetian hat. Handmade by top class furriers of genuine black Astrakhan fur. Prototype of this hat comes from Cossacks who used the cross as an Orthodox symbol for protection in battles. Crown color used to identify geographical origin.
