Cossack hats are head accessories worn by the Cossacks living in the south of Ukraine as well as along the banks of rivers Don, Kuban, and Terek located in Russia and Georgia. Common misconception is that ushanka or trapper hats belong to the same family. However, the reality is that the Cossacks have never used winter hats with ear flaps. A genuine Cossack hat must be of certain shape and made of either Persian lamb (Astrakhan fur, Karakul) or sheepskin.
